Micro Tales - Thought You'd Never Ask

Thought You'd Never Ask Here's a flower for your hair, and a pair of the shiniest ribbons I could find. Let's put them on.  Ah, you look just like the day I first met you - Six years old and full of glee I asked if you would marry me.  It's been twenty years since, And darling, I'd like to ask again. Author's Notes: Do you know someone who married their childhood crush? This post is part of a new short story series. Head over to the link on my profile to read full length stories. Poetry Challenge - June - Teacup

Empty Teacup The city doesn't excite me Quite as much as it used to. It's bustling with energy and footsteps, But none belong to you. The streetlights flicker on and drown out the sunset. I put the kettle on to boil, And set the table for one. Follow me on Instagram @thejovialwriter

Poetry Challenge - May - Watch

Timepiece When Emma was four, she wanted a watch. Not just any dial, but the battered gold, The elderly guest at dinner, adorned on his wrist.   It was shiny, yellow like the sun, Bent out of shape and yet, oh, how she yearned To hear the dutiful Breguet hands count time.   Her heart desperate, she stalled until the vegetables were eaten. “Can I wear it too?” she asked, timidly pointing. The veteran’s eyes twinkled as he considered her request, She waited with baited breath, as the table paused to eavesdrop. “It hasn’t worked in years, but young lady it is yours.”

Poetry Challenge - April - Levity

Smile when it's hard Like a child you seem not to care nor know, of how horrid people can be. you believe in beauty and love, kindness and occassional levity. I ask you  about the devastation and anguish that lurks behind the very eyes  that have seen it all. You answer with gentle pause, that everything - is but a glimpse, of who we were or might be one day, or that which we already are .

Poetry Challenge - March - Heels

Stood Up I think I took too long to get here. That’s why he left. But the skirt I wore is rather short, and it is quite windy today. So, yes, “I’ll take the coffee to go, With a chocolate muffin thrown in.” The cars stop as I cross, And the sun kisses my skin. There’s a sweet stickiness on my lips; Heels tapping on the sidewalk. I feel taller as I wear my sunglasses, And sexy as I hail a cab home.
